In Illinois 440 bird species are listed by the Illinois Ornithological Society (as of Sept 2011).
The Northern Cardinal is the state bird...as selected by school children in 1929. It's also the state bird of six other states.
As this is our home state, we have met numerous hepful and friendly people during our birding outings, but there are simply way too many to begin to name.
Our favorite birding spots include Columbus Park, Morton Arboretum, the North Pond, the Magic Hedge at Montrose, Northerly Isle, Starved Rock and McKinely State Parks, our own garden, etc., etc.
