Belize is a small Central American country of 8,867 sq mi (about the size of New Jersey) with a population of 387,879 (in 2017).

A very diverse society of many cultures and languages, and while Belizean Creole is widely spoke, English is the official language.

Belize includes around 450 smaller cays and islands and has 603 bird species (Amer. Ornith. Society)

Over 60% of the country is covered by forest.

The Keel-billed Toucan is the national bird; the Tapir is the national animal, and Mahogany is the national tree.
