Least Flycatcher
Empidonax minimus
 (L 5.25" WS 7.75" WT 0.36 oz)
Hidden Lake
23Aug2008
For weeks we watched a spotted flycatcher
tenant the garden like a summer guest.
We didn't see the other birdwatcher –
grey squirrel, magpie, cat? – plunder the nest.
    (Creatures by James Aitchison)
Sits on a branch and flies out to
catch insects...among the
smallest most common
flycatchers.
Empidonas in Greek means a
gnat or mosquito king.
