In Sulawesi and the Maluku Islands to
New Guinea, the Aru Islands, the
Bismarck Archipelago, northern Solomon
Islands and northeastern Australia.
Resemble hummingbirds in shape
and ability to hover while sipping
nectar.
There are 132 species of sunbirds in
the family Nectarinidae.
Cinnyris refers to a small bird mentioned
by Hesychius of Alexandria;
frenatus is
Latin for bridled (in reference to the face
pattern).
