Oh, Mr. Rifle bird sitting in the tree,
Why don’t you come down to me?
Oh, Mr Rifle bird sitting in the tree,
Come on down to play with me.
(Ellie Zillfleisch, Grade 6, QLD)
So named for the likeness of their black
velvety plumage to the uniform of the
Rifle Brigade. Alternatively, the bird’s
cry is similar to a rifle being fired and
hitting its target.(Wikipedia)
