Chestnut-rumped Thornbill
Acanthiza uropygialis
(L 3.5-4.3" WS 5.5-6.5"
Wt 0.21 oz)
Hattah-Kulkyne Nat’l Park
Australia
29Oct2015
Endemic to Australia...gregarious
in small flocks...in dry woodlands
and surub lands.
Population is decreasing due
to clearing of woodlands and
overgrazing.
Bare hawthorn thickets pearled in rain
Attract the hornbill and the wren.
Timber-trucks pass now and then
And cows are moving in the lane.
(James McAuley)
Acanthiza is Greek for thorn
brake; uropygialis is Latin for
rump.
