Todus means small bird;

ramphos is Greek for bill.

Despite their name, most
kingfishers don’t “fish.” They
hunt in woodlands, where the
smaller ones will eat grass-
hoppers and centipedes, and the
larger ones will take frogs,
reptiles, small mammals, and
even snakes.
