Green Heron
Butorides virescens
   (L 18" WS 26" Wt 7 oz)
Pinckney Island NWR
27Apr2011
A tool-user...will drop bait
(bread, insects, worms, etc) into
water and catch attracted fish.
Green heron cannily arches her neck
as food moves in mudflat water.
In an instant her arrow will strike:
muscles tense, neck feathers fluffed,
toes curled in mud, neck a strung bow.
A Natural.
