Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Pheucticus ludovicianus
(L 8" WS 12.5" Wt 1.6 oz)
Widespread from Canada, much
of the U.S and Central America.
South Padre Island
22-3Apr2013
Its song has been compared with
the finest efforts of the robin
and the Scarlet Tanager, but it is
far superior to either. Some
have variously suggested it sings
like a robin that has had opera
training, is drunk, refined, in a
hurry, or unusually happy.
