Breeds any time of the year
...if pine cones are plentiful.
Loxia in Greek means cross-
wise; curvirostra in Latin
means curved bill.
According to legend, crossbills deformed
their beaks while trying to extract nails
from Jesus’ feet and their red feathers
were stained by Christ’s blood.
