• French zoologist, explorer and naturalist collector born in Jura,
France
• worked in Columbia from1822 to 1842.
• first head of zoology dept. of the Columbian National Museum.
• has been described as a ‘furious collector of birds’.
• published a series of papers on the flora and faunda of Columbia.
• returned to Columbia in 1848, where hed died around 1850.
• Sickle-winged Guan (Chamaepetes goudotii) is named after him.
