               Passerculus in Latin means little
               sparrow; sandwichensis is after the
               Sandwich Islands, former name of
               the Hawaiian Islands after John
               Mongague, the Earl of Swandwich.

               This new species (the Savannah
Sparrow) is inhabitant of the low
countries on the Atlantic coast, from
Savannah, where I first discovered it.
