Dunlin
Calidris alpina
(L 8.5" WS 17" WT 2.1 oz)
Anastasia State Park
05Feb2012
Circumpolar flyer...breeds in north Alas-
ka, Europe and asia...winters in Africa,
south Asia and the Middle East.
Reclusive birds when breeding, raising young/
on rugged hilltops, dunlin are not hip/ nor
drop-dead beautiful nor strong,/ but burn-outs
who forgot the way to rock./ Alone in pairs,
they’ve flown too far to trip/ back to the mud
and revel with the flock.
