Dunlin
Calidris alpina
(L 8.5" WS 17" WT 2.1 oz)
Circumpolar flyer...breeds in north
Alaska, Europe and asia...winters in
Africa, south Asia and the Middle East.
Reclusive birds when breeding, raising young/
on rugged hilltops, dunlin are not hip/ nor
drop-dead beautiful nor strong,/ but burn-outs
who forgot the way to rock./ Alone in pairs,
they’ve flown too far to trip/ back to the mud
and revel with the flock.
