Across much of the northern two-
thirds of South America, from
Colombia to Paraguay to Brazil.
Patiagioenas in Greek means
clattering pigeon; plunbea
means leaden-colored.
It has been estimated that half a
million pigeons were used by the
armies of WWI…the British alone
used 250,000 carrier pigeons.
